SHARK ALERT

.

Does your student love scholar dollars?? Adore shopping at the Shark Shop?? Enjoy quarterly Fun Days??

If you answered yes to any of these questions, we need your help...An integral part of the 3R's at Bonnie Branch Middle are the many rewards and incentives available to students who demonstrate positive behaviors. Students may spend their Scholar Dollars on products in the Shark Shop, privileges in the classroom, special quarterly fun day events, and other things. In order to keep providing these opportunities, we will be holding a silent auction fundraiser on September 30, 2010 at Back to School Night. Each homeroom will be assigned a basket theme. Please send in donation items related to this theme with your child, or feel free to make a monetary donation.  Your child can then drop off items or money in homeroom.

If you would like more information feel free to contact Mr. Jarrett Emery, PBIS Coach, at 410-313-2580 or Jarrett_emery@hcpss.org . Thank you!

Instrument Donation

The Music Program is always interested in obtaining more musical instruments for the students.  If you have a working instrument you would like to donate, please contact Beth Tray at 410-730-5358 or btray@thehill.com.

Facts About Hyperthermia

Did you know that a child’s body heats up 3 to 5 times faster than an adult’s? It only takes a few short minutes before a child can become dangerously overheated.

In just 10 minutes a car’s temperature can increase by 19 degrees – and it continues to rise.

Top Tips for Preventing Hyperthermia

  • Dial 911 immediately if you see an unattended child in a car. EMS professionals are trained to determine if a child is in trouble.

  • Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle, even with the window slightly open.

  • Place a cell phone, PDA, purse, briefcase, gym bag or whatever is to be carried from the car, on the floor in front of a child in a backseat. This triggers adults to see children when they open the rear door and reach for their belongings.

  • Set your cell phone or Blackberry reminder to be sure you dropped your child off at day care.

  • Set your computer calendar program, such as Outlook, to ask, “Did you drop off at daycare today?”

  • Have a plan that if your child is late for daycare that you will be called within a few minutes. Be especially careful if you change your routine for dropping off little kids at day care.

  • Teach children not to play in any vehicle.

  • Lock all vehicle doors and trunk after everyone has exited the vehicle – especially at home. Keep keys out of children’s reach. Cars are not playgrounds or babysitters.

  • Check vehicles and trunks FIRST if a child goes missing.

Remind yourself and others how to keep your kids safe by printing out a flyer in English and/or in Spanish and posting on your poster-board or refrigerator.
